Do you have a security system for your home? Maybe you're waiting until your home is broken into, then you'll get one? The time to get a security system isn't after your home has been broken into. Instead, everyone should have some type of security system as a preventive measure before a break in occurs.
Maybe you intended to get a home security system, but were put off by the huge monthly cost associated with them. Many security companies charge monthly fees of around $30-40, or even more. They typically require a contract as well, so once you start paying the excessive monthly, fees you can't stop...usually for a term of about 3 years. They often use installation deals to attract customers, such as free equipment, free installation, or both. What they typically don't tell you is that your monthly fee that this comes out of will continue for many years after their cost of the hardware is paid off.
It's a lot like cell phone companies have traditionally been when they give you a free or low-cost phone. The way they look at it, a portion of your monthly fee for a certain period of time pays for the hardware that they gave you for free, or at a substantial discount. But will they lower your monthly fee once the hardware is paid off? Typically not.
So why not purchase your own security system instead? Sure, the up front cost will be higher. But with many systems, you'll be able to build your own security system for the cost of just a few monthly fees that you would have paid to your security company. And if you want your security system to be monitored, there are much cheaper alternatives out there that charge you just for monitoring, without padding in a bunch of costs for the free or discounted sensors they gave you several years ago.
For my security system, after a lot of research, I chose the Elk M1Gold. You can use the system for a smaller home with fewer sensors, or even a very large home or business where you require many sensors. From door/window sensors, to motion sensors, glass break detectors, remote key fobs, and much more, it's very easy to add all of this to your Elk M1Gold system. It's equally as simple to add additional devices later, so start out small with just what you need now, while knowing that you will be able to expand your system later if and when the need arises.
